Proxima Pulse 24

After a few months away the highly anticipated For the Players podcast returns shortly.

Dear Gaming Enthusiasts and Proxima Community,

This week we take some time to profile the writing team on Warship Jolly Roger. Who come from different corners of the earth (Europe anyway) but are somehow making it work regardless.

What's New at Proxima?

We’re hugely privileged to not only have the intellectual property to work with, in the form of Warship Jolly Roger, but also, excitingly, we have the author himself Sylvain Runberg heading our writing team. We gave it a try and certainly can’t think of too many other examples across gaming, Television or film where an author of a title also spearheaded the project that it’s inspired by it. Sylvain is our Narrative Director And will oversee the content which goes into the game, as well as creating his own properties he has worked on stellar IPs such as: Wonder Woman, Conan, Captain Future, Millenium/The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Watchdogs Legion. With his vision of the Warship Jolly Roger universe guiding the narrative we feel more confident we can stay close to the intent of the author who we know is relishing the opportunity to delve even deeper into his world building.

Also involved with the writing team is our Game Director Harvey Newman who was the person responsible for choosing the title and will contribute his large gaming experience both as a developer and a gamer. Harvey has been a keen gamer for a long time now, this added to his wealth of experience helping create games helps massively with the lateral thinking and problem solving that goes into creating a new title with no existing blueprint.

Dominic completes the team and brings a more scriptwriter perspective to the writing team having studied Film and Creative Writing at university as well as worked as a playwright and poet for some years now. He feels that his strength lies in writing dialogue which is a great accompaniment to Sylvain’s role. We’re very much still feeling our way with this element but we were proud with the result of the demo which was our first time bringing our three perspectives together.

As with all we do every perspective is welcome and any good suggestions are listened to and incorporated if we think it will make the game better. A lot of what makes good writing is in how organic the end product feels. How natural it all sounds and we think, with the brilliance of our voice actors, we can deliver on this.
