PROXIMA PULSE 25
A take on the state of the industry.
Dear Gaming Enthusiasts and Proxima Community,
We reunited for the first time in a long time last week and it was great to see everyone’s faces. As well as our usual catch up we spoke about things outside of the studio as well.
What's New at Proxima?
Our weekly meetings have resumed after a short hiatus and as you can imagine there was lots to discuss. The starting point was news with publishers where the situation hasn’t changed much, we’re still hope no news is good news as it may mean that they are sharing our GDC demo within and trying to get feedback. Something we did talk about was the situation in the industry: it feels that there has been a pushback against multiplayers as the market is becoming oversaturated. Naturally, this means there is a demand again for single player narratives, which plays into our hands. One of the advantages of not being under a big studio is that it means we’re not at the whim of the publisher and therefore not at the whims of the public. We go on creating the game we want to make and hope the market is ready for it when we’re at the release phase.
We also spoke about how the Triple-A era may be coming to an end with fewer and fewer new Triple-A releases and standards arguably taking a dip in recent times. With fans bored of having to wait 6-7 years for follow-ups it feels as though indie developers are on the rise as they can push out new games with much more frequency.
Within the studio new member, Jason has been already been dubbed the hardest working member of Proxima this week as the new Sound Designer becomes acclimatised with our set up and the fine-tuning the required elements of the game. This lightens the load of our Tech Animator to allow both to shine in their respected fields.
